William B. McClain died in San Antonio, Tx Friday, Feb 27. Funeral services. were conducted at the home here on Monday morning by Rev. Mr. Oliphant of Crawfordsville, pastor of Union Church. Interment at Maple Ridge. Mr. McClain was the eldest son of William H. and Mary McClain. He was b. in Shelby Co Ky Aug 26, 1859. He lived in Ky until age 22, when he came to Parke County, Indiana. Oct 8, 1884 he married Miss Laura E. Boyd. With her lived a devoted husb. until her death, Oct 6, 1891. To this marriage were born two daughters, Mary and Essie. The elder, Mary, survives both parents. Essie died at age 14 months. Sept 7, 1892 he again married Miss Julia Clore. One daughter, Bessie was born to them, who with the widow survive.
About a year ago his health began failing. Tuberculosis developed. In November in company with his wife and youngest daughter and his brother, Jasper, he went to Pensacola, Fl in the hopes that a change in climate might prove beneficial. The weather proving unfavorable, after a short stay they went to San Antonio. Here he grew much worse and after great suffering, passed away. Mr. McClain united with the Buck Creek Baptist Church in Ky. in his early manhood and at the time of his death was a member of the Union Church. His faith was sure and he met death without fear. Mr. McClain was a successful farmer, devoting special attention to stock raising and feeding. He was widely known as a breeder of Hereford cattle and Shropshire sheep. When his health began to fail he recognized that he had not long to live and immediately began putting his affairs in order. He left no will and his property will go in equal shares to his wife and two daughters. He leaves 3 brothers: John and James who live in Ky and Jasper of Osborneville, Ill.
